Will Vinyl Kill the CD Star?Though I doubt vinyl is the biggest worry that record companies face (
see www.seeqpod.com and iTunes), it's nice to see the old wise mage of audio technology making a resurgence. What have you done with your record player?
I'm not sure exactly when or where this is from. And I don't care.
Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, solo with an acoustic guitar, playing "Walk On", from my favorite Neil Young album
On the Beach. It's outstanding. I found it when I was skimming through the "News" section at
ropeadope.com. If you're a hard-core Wilco fan, you probably knew long ago that Tweedy was playing this one. I didn't, but I'm glad I do now. Check it out.
[After a little searching, I discovered the full set from the 2006 performance that the song came from on this blog.]
Our Philosophy:
The music press, both mainstream and independent, focus the bulk of their attention on "new music" -- the latest albums and hot new artists. But what if "new music" meant something else? What if it referred to music that, regardless of when it was originally released -- this week or 50 years ago -- was just now being discovered by an individual, or perhaps by a generation? Any music could be "new." This Web publication charts our travels along the road of discovery as we become aware and gain a greater appreciation of some of the best music ever recorded from genres including rock 'n' roll, jazz, folk, soul, funk and, perhaps most importantly of all, the blues.
